Practicum Application
The Practicum Application is now accessed through TK20.

Please do not wait until the last minute to submit your online application request for a field practicum assignment. If your TK20 account is not yet activated, there will be a delay between initiating activation and being able to actually access the practicum application on TK20.

What is TK20? TK20 is an assessment, accountability and management system to help colleges and universities meet requirements for accreditation. TK20 stands for "Technology in Kindergarten through Age 20." TK20 will soon be expanding to other colleges and programs.

Use the following steps to access this application:

  1. Go to the TK20 web site (tk20.wright.edu).

  2. Log in... Username: WSU University Id (UID); Password: WSU PIN (6 digit) Follow the link to purchase your student account if needed.

  3. Click on the artifacts tab and click on Application Forms in the side menu - then click on 'create'.

  4. In the drop down menu, select Field Practicum Application (NEW VERSION).

  5. Complete the electronic form with requested pertinent information and submit by clicking 'save'.

Check your WSU email account for a message verifying receipt of your application.

Each student requesting a field placement must submit...

1. Field Practicum Application (via TK20),

2. Current resume,

3. Bureau of Criminal Investigation & Identification and FBI report.

4. Attend appropriate orientation session (see "Orientation Information")

Resume
A resume and autobiographical sketch / cover letter is required for all teacher candidates pursuing a practicum assignment. Be sure to email or drop a copy off to the office at the time you complete the practicum application on Tk20. These are offered to building and district administrators so they can get a feel for who you are and, if necessary, invite you in for a brief interview.

Fingerprinting / Background Check reports
In September 2005, the State Board of Education adopted administrative rules regarding licensure and employment in educational agencies of individuals with certain criminal convictions. The rule provides a definitive list of offenses that are an absolute bar for initial licensure and initial employment. Public and private schools that host our students require that our teacher candidates have a current background check completed prior to placement.

There are two purposes for the BCII & FBI reports.

 1. to provide safety for the children in the PK-12 schools.

 2. to notify teacher candidates of his/her potential for obtaining a teaching license before engaging in coursework, time and money. A negative background check could jeopardize a candidate's ability to meet the state of Ohio's requirement for licensure.

FBI report results are valid for five years. BCII report results are valid for one year; therefore the procedure will have to be repeated during your teacher preparation program. It is your responsibility to proceed and follow through with your background checks in a timely manner.

Wright State University will strictly comply with the Ohio Revised Code. WSU requires teacher candidates in all teacher preparation programs requesting a field placement to complete local state of Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation & Identification (BCII) and an federal FBI background check prior to attending arranged practicum site(s). This procedure is available in the Educational Resource Center (116 Allyn Hall). A fee is charged for this service.

Credential Files
Students are encouraged to self manage their own credential file. If a school district application asks for a copy of your "Credential File," they are referring to the following documents:

  • resume
  • student teaching final evaluation
  • 3-5 letters of recommendation (no more than 2 years old)
  • Praxis II scores
  • transcripts (any and all universities attended)

Maintain the originals of these documents so that you can produce copies for other school district applications.

The unofficial copy of your student teaching final evaluation is available through the Office of Partnerships & Field Experiences, and has been accepted as an official document by school districts statewide and quite often nationally. Your field experience paperwork prior to student teaching is not necessarily included in this file; if you feel that it is to your advantage to be included, you should have retained your own copies of this paperwork throughout your program. If you do not have documentation of a particular field assignment, copies of your completed hours and cooperating teacher evaluation may be obtained and picked up at the Office of Partnerships & Field Experiences with prior notice of 2-days minimum.
