Middle Childhood educators first complete a rigorous undergraduate program in two specialized areas (language, arts, social studies, mathematics or science) accompanied with teacher education professional coursework and field experiences in urban and suburban practicum experiences in middle school settings.
After completing the bachelor's degree program, the candidate applies to a graduate level teacher licensure program (the teaching license is not provided on the undergraduate level).
The Teacher Education pre-professional classes, provide the undergraduate with an introduction to the total ecology of schools with focus on Middle Childhood education.

MIDDLE CHILDHOOD EDUCATION - Graduate Level Licensure and Master's Degree Program
Licensure to teach two subjects: Middle Childhood - English/Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science
Master of Education (M. Ed.)
Applicants must have a bachelor's degree, meet content requirements, and pass two appropriate Praxis II content examinations: Middle School English Language Arts, Middle School Mathematics, Middle School Science, Middle School Social Studies. Other admissions criteria apply, please visit with a Teacher Licensure Advisor to learn the details of the admissions process to the Graduate Level Initial Licensure program in Middle Childhood Education.
Upon successful completion of the licensure portion of the program and passing the Praxis II exam in Principles of Learning and Teaching: Grades 5-9, candidates are eligible apply for an Ohio provisional middle childhood license(s) in the concentration areas that apply to the candidate's preparation : Language Arts and Reading (4-9), Mathematics (4-9), Science (4-9), Social Studies (4-9).
