READING K-12

Endorsement

PREREQUISITES INCLUDE
• Admission into the School of Graduate Studies (SoGS) Advanced Program Status
• Admission into the Endorsement or Masters program which requires…
o Successful completion of the Ohio Core for Reading or equivalent (must include 4.5 quarter hours of phonics instruction and approval by tenure track reading faculty if transfer of credit is needed)
o Coursework should have been completed in last 7 years to align with SoG standards
o Copy of a current teaching license

ODE PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE
• Successful completion of the reading core standards
• Key Assessments and data collection for the 6 ODE reading endorsement standards
• Documented evidence of 100 hours of “field experience” at the Pre K-3, Middle and Secondary level
• Ongoing Key Assessments with data collection and analysis (3 years)

Upon successful completion of the Reading K-12 endorsement program of study and passing the appropriate Praxis II exam (please consult with a licensure advisor before registering for a Praxis II exam), the holder of an Ohio standard teaching credential may add an endorsement in Reading K-12.
