The Literacy Specialist endorsement program is offered by a consortium of seven (7) Ohio universities in an advanced program of reading education. The program is designed as a one-year program consisting on 18 semester or 27 quarter hours that include both online coursework and a university-based internship. LITERACY SPECIALIST
Endorsement

The Literacy Specialist Endorsement Program is offered by a consortium of seven (7) Ohio universities in an advanced program of reading education. The program is designed as a one-year program, consisting of 18 semester or 27 quarter hours that include both online coursework and a university-based internship.  See advisor for specific admissions criteria and enrollment in coursework.

Students seeking an endorsement in Literacy Specialist must hold a current teaching certificate or license. Students who do not have a current (expired) teaching credential must complete the renewal requirements for a license prior to the granting of the endorsement in Literacy Specialist.

Upon successful completion of the Literacy Specialist endorsement program of study, the holder of an Ohio standard teaching credential may add an endorsement in Literacy Specialist (#050315).

Coaching in Diverse Classrooms 3 quarter hours
Coaching for Effective Assessment Practice 3 quarter hours
Pedagogy of Effective Literacy Instruction 3 quarter hours
Professional Development in Literacy 3 quarter hours
Advanced Literacy Research 3 quarter hours
Capstone: Internship (completed in local school district during academic year) 12 quarter hours


Total Quarter Hours: 27

Note: The home institution is defined as the university in which the candidate enrolls in the program.  The institutions participating in the consortium include: John Carroll University, The Ohio State University, The University of Akron, University of Dayton, University of Toledo, Wright State University, and Youngstown University.

Currently, there is no Praxis II test for this endorsement. Program of study only offered at the graduate level.
