Counseling Workshops
Wright State University's Department of Counseling and Human Services is an approved provider in counseling with the Ohio Counselor and Social Worker Board. These classes are also approved by the Ohio Department of Education for School Counselors. All classes with CNL designation are approved for renewal of professional counselor and professional clinical counselor licenses. Participants seeking to expand their knowledge and understanding of specific counseling issues will benefit from these courses as well. You may register for credit hours or noncredit clock hours.

Anger Management

We will explore the dynamics of anger, its etiology, neurology, and causes. Considerable emphasis will be placed on how to manage anger effectively. Techniques will be discussed which are appropriate for school, work and personal environments.

Human Sexuality

FALL 2008

In this course you will develop an awareness of your personal sexual values, expand your knowledge base of human sexuality, and increase your level of comfort and competence intervening with sexual concerns in a clinical setting. The workshop will be on a contract-grading basis and will emphasize opportunities for experiential learning. Topics to be addressed include communicating about sexuality, developmental sexuality, sexual anatomy and physiology, medical aspects of sexuality, sex and disability, sexual trauma and recovery, sexual diversity, sex therapy, and a new model of sexual health.

(This course is applicable for counselors.)

YOU MUST ATTEND ALL THREE WEEKENDS.

Improving Leadership, Team and Organizational Effectiveness With The Myers-Briggs

FALL 2008

This course will help you assess the strengths and weaknesses of your team or work groups utilizing the Myers-Briggs Lens Analysis. You will be able to evaluate your team with the Team Type Lens which helps increase personal and interpersonal effectiveness; the Functions Lens which helps improve communication and understanding of the organizational culture; the Quadrant Lens which improves the teams approach to change; the Temperament Lens
which explores leadership style and effectiveness; and the Decision-Making Lens which improves decision making, problem solving and stress management. You will receive an 18-page personality report which focuses on ways to improve communication, change management and decision making. The instructor will discuss his experience in applying the Myers-Briggs to leadership teams and discuss interventions to improve individual and team performance. You will also have an opportunity to assess and improve your leadership skills. This class is interactive, didactic and fun.

(This course is applicable for K-12 educators, individuals, counselors, managers, etc.)

Attachment and Learning Disorders in Youth: How They Are Related and What We Can Do About Them

FALL 2008

This class will address the topic of insecure attachment, Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD) and learning disorders in the classroom, grades K-12. Information will be shared which will help teachers identify more effectively whether a student has RAD, a learning disorder, or in some cases, both. The seminar will teach 12 causes for insecure attachment and RAD, as well as review the nine types of learning disabilities and their causes. Signs and symptoms of RAD, especially scholastic difficulty and behavioral problems in the classroom, will be presented and compared with the signs and symptoms of learning disorders. Participants will learn various healing interventions for children with insecure attachment and RAD and techniques and tools for teaching/surviving the disruptive, defiant RAD student will be explored. Participants will learn at least 10 IEP accommodations to classroom problems caused by RAD and insecure attachment.
