CNL 865: Clinical Mental Health Counseling Practicum Requirements
Average 10 clock hours per week on site, 4 of the 10 clock hours are to be direct contact with clients (individual, couple, marriage and family and or group counseling, appraisal and consultation). During the 10 week quarter you should document a minimum of 100 hours on site and at least 40 clock hours of direct contact. At least 10 % of the direct contact time should be individual counseling and at least 10% group counseling, e.g., it could be 45% individual, 45% group and 10% assessment, or any combination. A minimum of 1 clock hour per week of direct face-to-face supervision with the PCC-S Site Supervisor.
Beginning fall 2012, an average of 7 clock hours per week for fall and spring semesters and 9 clock hours per week for summer semester are required for a minimum of 100 total clock hours on site. Of these 100 hours, 40 clock hours are required of direct contact with clients (individual, couple, marriage and family and or group counseling, appraisal and consultation). At least 25% of the direct contact time should be individual counseling and at least 25% group counseling, e.g., it could be 45% individual, 45% group and 10% assessment, or any combination. A minimum of 1 clock hour per week of direct face-to-face supervision with the PCC-S Site Supervisor is required. |
CNL 867: Clinical Mental Health Counseling Internship Requirements
The following are minimum Mental Health Counseling internship requirements. The student is required to complete a total of 12 credits of CNL 867 for a minimum of 600 clock hours at his/her internship site with a minimum of 300 direct client contact clock hours (individual, couple, marriage and family and or group counseling, appraisal and consultation). Internship may be accomplished in one of the following sequences:
1. 2 credit hours per quarter

A minimum of 10 clock hours per week at the site (100 clock hours per quarter). |
| b. |
A minimum of 50 direct client contact clock hours. Additional requirements are detailed in the Clinical Mental Health Internship manual. |
| c. |
A minimum of 1 clock hour per week of direct face-to-face supervision with the PCC-S Site Supervisor. |
| d. |
A minimum of 1.5 clock hours per week of group supervision with the University Faculty Supervisor. |
2. 3 credit hours per quarter
| a. |
A minimum of 15 clock hours per week at the site (150 clock hours minimum per quarter). |
| b. |
A minimum of 75 direct client contact clock hours. Additional requirements are detailed in the Clinical Mental Health Internship manual. |
| c. |
A minimum of 1 clock hour per week of direct face-to-face supervision with the PCC-S Site Supervisor. |
| d. |
A minimum of 1.5 clock hours per week of group supervision with the University Faculty Supervisor. |
3. 4 credits per quarter
| a. |
A minimum of 20 clock hours per week at the site (200 clock hours minimum per quarter). |
| b. |
A minimum of 100 direct client contact clock hours. Additional requirements are detailed in the Clinical Mental Health Internship manual. |
| c. |
A minimum of 1 clock hour per week of direct face-to-face supervision with the PCC-S Site Supervisor per week. |
| d. |
A minimum of 1.5 clock hours per week of group supervision with the University Faculty Supervisor. |
4. A combination of 1, 2, or 3 totaling 12 credit hours.
CNL 8670: Clinical Mental Health Counseling
Semester Internship Requirements
The following are minimum Clinical Mental Health Counseling semester internship requirements. The student is required to complete a total of 6 credit hours of CNL 8670 for a minimum of 600 clock hours at his/her internship site with a minimum of 240 direct client contact clock hours (individual, couple, marriage and family and or group counseling, appraisal and consultation). Internship may be accomplished in one of the following sequences:
1. 2 credit hours per semester (for 3 semesters)
| a. |
An average of 14 clock hours per week on site for fall and spring semester, and 17 clock hours per week on site for summer semester (minimum 200 clock hours per semester). |
| b. |
A minimum of 80 direct client contact clock hours. Additional requirements are detailed in the Clinical Mental Health Internship manual. |
| c. |
A minimum of 1 clock hour per week of direct face-to-face supervision with the PCC-S Site Supervisor. |
| d. |
A minimum of 1.5 clock hours per week of group supervision with the University Faculty Supervisor. |
2. 3 credit hours per semester (for 2 semesters)
| a. |
An average of 20 clock hours per week on site for fall and spring semesters, and 25 clock hours per week for summer semester at the site (300 clock hours minimum per semester). |
| b. |
A minimum of 120 direct client contact clock hours. Additional requirements are detailed in the Clinical Mental Health Internship manual. |
| c. |
A minimum of 1 clock hour per week of direct face-to-face supervision with the PCC-S Site Supervisor. |
| d. |
A minimum of 1.5 clock hours per week of group supervision with the University Faculty Supervisor. |
3. 4 credit hour semester (for a combination of 2 credit hours one semester and 4 credit hours another semester)
| a. |
An average of 27 clock hours per week at the site for fall and spring semester and 34 clock hours per week at the site for summer semester (400 clock hours minimum per semester). |
| b. |
A minimum of 160 direct client contact clock hours. Additional requirements are detailed in the Clinical Mental Health Internship manual. |
| c. |
A minimum of 1 clock hour per week of direct face-to-face supervision with the PCC-S Site Supervisor per week. |
| d. |

CLINICAL MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELING
Master of Science (M.S.) or Master of Arts (M.A.)
Students learn theories and techniques for counseling individuals, families and groups, and administration and interpretation of psychometric assessment. This major has all the courses required to qualify for admission to the Ohio Professional Counselor licensure exam.
The College of Education and Human Services Clinical Mental Health Counseling program (M.A. and M.S. degrees) is accredited by CACREP through October 31, 2011.
